One of my first big project for my new job at my college. It's the quarterly calendar! This one beat out two other designs I had up, and I am very happy, because this one was my favorite out of the three. So I am going to keep a very similar theme throughout the four quarters of school. Since this is the fall quarter coming up, obviously the theme is fall. I was trying to go for a very optimistic and happy look, but very pleasant at the same time. Please let me know what you think!
This piece really does personify the season of Fall, with its yellow and orange leaves all over the scene and bright sunshine that usually follows with clouds.
The child with the balloon seems to represent the end of summer, still enjoying the weather but loathing the dreaded return to school. I do enjoy that, how this is a bit symbolic and not just a pretty picture.
The sun rays kind of throw it off. For everything being so organic in nature and design, the straight lines do bring it back to being a very flat picture.Everything else about it jumps off the page, showing the true colors of the Fall.
Then again, those rays of sunshine show the last light of day, probably the last good light for the upcoming winter, and they make a bold statement. So, I revoke that. Yet I disagree with myself. (Why must this be so amazing??)
I give the Vision a 4.5, it truely does show what Fall is like, and I can't wait for the other seasons to show up.
Originality, I gave you a 4. As much as I love this piece, it reminds me of other calendar portraits, which I know is what you were going for but it just brings me back to my childhood (which is a good thing!).
Technique, I had to give you a 5. Placing all those leaves around the tree and in the air, tweaking their size and movement, must have been tough work! The clouds in the back show your true talent, being able to blend the organic with the structural and not make it seem out of place.
Impact. 5. This Is FALL in its finest. I dare somebody to look at this and try and not guess this was a piece about Fall.
Fantastic job, Mikey. I look forward to your other pieces.
Aww it's so purdy. I love the bright colors and the rays of the sun. I have to agree with the movement of the hill just kind of bringing your eye to the sun. It's really nice!!!
never mind.. forgot you need "premium membership" LOL.. but ill tell you here.. I like it.. so what I totally go on to see first is the boy with the ballon.. love that it's just a contrast from the background.. so it pops out.. from there.. my eye goes/flows along the ground leading me to the sun.. this is interesting.. the outter glow is just perfect... from there my eyes are led to the sun beams and up to the clouds, nice job on those! brushes?.. any ways, after that happens, then my eyes are attracted to the leafs dancing around.. and then boom.. back to the tree and boy.. NICE COMPOSITION I like that its not too centered, and well balanced!..and great way of using these colors together.. (purple/pinkish with the yellow) all in all.. I say its awesome. I can already imagine the winter and Spring ones coming to life. Good Job man!..
Thanks for taking the time to put some depth into your comment! I don't get those enough. I think I will be doing more work like this, it's quite simple, but very effective.
